How
to Make a Tufa Container

Some examples for
different shapes & sizes of planter you can made.
You can use any container for the form, A bowl, a laundry
basket, or
make your own form fron wood.
Remember that the inside will be smaller because of the
hypertufa mix,
so choose a container that is large enough.
What You
Will Need:
A container
for the form
Peatmoss
Portland Cement
Pearlite
Garbage Bag
Bubble Wrap, etc if desired
Concrete Coloring
Water
.
Line your container
with a garbage bag.
If you want a 'bumpy' look, line with some bubble wrap or
knotted plastic first,
THEN line with the bag.
Mix: 1 part each of
portland cement, pearlite, and peatmoss, and optional
concrete coloring.
Add enough water and mix together.
You want the consistancy of a brownie mix.
.
Cover the inside
with this mixture so it is about 2"- 3" thick.
Push tightly leaving no cracks or thin spaces and the
surface make smooth..
When this is done, make some holes in the bottom with
your finger for drainage.

Sit aside until your
mixture sets, but is still moist. Carefully remove from
container.
If any places need smoothed, or the rim needs rounded a
bit, do this now.
Place in a shady area
You will need to spray with water several times a day as
the piece cures.
This watering will make the planter cure slowly and
become more durable and hard.
Do not plant your
container right away, as it needs weathering time for
some of the alkalinity
to leach out of the cement.
